NewsGreenethiquette, the first eco-responsible charter for outsourced IT services. - eBiz10/21/2009 An initiative inciting opinion leaders to commit to sustainable IT methods
Business & Decision, international Consultant and Systems Integrator (CSI), announces the launch of its Greenethiquette charter and website www.greenethiquette.com, which encourages business and service providers to work together towards eco-responsible IT usage.
Greenethiquette is aimed at service providers as well as users of digital services, especially where services are operated by a third party: cloud computing, Software as a Service, hosted web sites, hosted applications, outsourced information systems, etc.. The Greenethiquette charter requires service providers to take account of their environmental responsibilities and commits them to implementing and developing eco-friendly methods in IT services. Any business or organisation which deals with hosted services can subscribe to the Greenethiquette charter at no cost by simply completing the electronic contract on the Greenethiquette website. The contract outlines criteria for hosted service providers, based on existing guidelines, such as the European Code of Conduct for data-centre efficiency and the Climate Savers computing initiative. Greenethiquette commits service providers to report on their eco-efficiency in hosted applications.
The objectives of the charter are:
A charter, bringing together the key market leaders and influential Green IT associations in a commitment to sustainability. Lorie Wigle, General Manager, Eco-Technology Office, Intel Corporation and President, Climate Savers Computing Initiative, comments: "With the advent of Cloud Computing software as a service, and the outsourcing of information services being considered by all CIOs, IT services are being hosted less and less frequently within organisations. The concept of Green IT, therefore, has become more related to purchases and service provider relationships, which is why the Greenethiquette initiative is of such significance." Christian Grellier, DOSI of Bouygues Real Estate adds: "Going forward, eco-responsibility will become a fundamental factor in outsourced service performance and as such, CIOs will be able to accelerate progress in energy performance. But implementing such factors requires tools and quantifiable codes of conducts, which are still uncommon for outsourced systems and applications. Greenethiquette is therefore highly significant at this time."
Gilles Dumolard, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Grenoble, comments: "One of the principal commitments of the ‘Grenelle de l'Environnement" is that of sustainability. We will be hoping to select our online service providers by considering their eco-responsibility measures and figures, and will be ensuring that energy efficiency continues to improve. We are delighted to work with Business & Decision Eolas on the Achatville project, which has provided an adapted framework for hosting the e-commerce platform, conforming to the Greenethiquette principles."
